Port of Los Angeles announces lane reductions and overnight closures on main highways

As work progresses on the Port of Los Angeles and Caltrans SR 47 Interchange Project, there will be lane reductions and ramp closures on SR 47 and I-110 in San Pedro.

Alternative freeway access ramps are suggested at Gaffey Street in San Pedro and John S. Gibson Boulevard in Wilmington.

Upcoming traffic impacts are as follows: Beginning Monday, 24 June, the northbound I-110 on-ramp from Harbor Boulevard/Front Street will be reduced from two lanes to one lane for approximately one year.

Starting Monday, 24 June, the northbound I-110 on-ramp from Harbor Boulevard/Front Street will be fully closed overnight from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. until Wednesday, 26 June, for restriping lanes and placing traffic barriers.

Beginning Tuesday, 25 June, the southbound SR 47 off-ramp to Harbor Boulevard will be fully closed overnight from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. until Friday, June 28, for drainage system replacement work.

In addition, these overnight closures may last up to one week to safely complete construction activities. Drivers are advised to follow posted traffic signs accordingly.

Moreover, the SR 47 Interchange Project involves replacing the existing southbound SR 47 off-ramp from the Vincent Thomas Bridge with a new off-ramp on the north side.

Additional improvements include realigning the existing on-ramp to the northbound I-110 connector, modifying the northbound SR 47 off-ramp onto Harbor Boulevard, modifying the northbound SR 47 on-ramp onto the bridge toward Terminal Island, and enhancing local streets near the interchange.

According to a statement, this project addresses traffic connections in San Pedro that access the Vincent Thomas Bridge but does not involve the bridge itself. Separately, Caltrans is proposing the Vincent Thomas Bridge Deck Replacement Project to replace the entire bridge deck and seismic sensors, thereby preserving the bridge deck's functionality and structural integrity while enhancing overall safety.

Although the Vincent Thomas Bridge is located on the Port of Los Angeles property and is crucial to the San Pedro Bay port complex's transportation network, the Port is not directly involved in this project.
