The Alexandria Port Authority received a high-level Greek delegation within the framework of the third session of the Egyptian-Greek Joint Maritime Committee, held on October 5, 2026.
Discussions resulted in agreement on a number of practical measures to activate areas of joint cooperation, with a focus on establishing maritime links between Egyptian and Greek ports.
The key routes under consideration include an Alexandria-Patras passenger and truck service using the Ro-Pax system and an Alexandria-Volos Ro-Ro freight route.
The Greek side also expressed interest in expanding trade with Alexandria to include dry bulk cargo, which would support trade and maritime connectivity and develop an integrated logistics corridor linking the two countries and their trading partners.
Both sides explored opportunities to strengthen maritime tourism cooperation, coordinating between Alexandria and Greek ports to position them as integrated home ports for cruise ships in the Eastern Mediterranean.
The delegation conducted a field tour of port facilities including the passenger terminal, Ro-Ro berths designated to serve the proposed routes and the Tahya Misr multipurpose terminal, allowing direct observation of the port’s operational and logistical capabilities.
Both sides agreed to hold subsequent technical meetings with specialists from both countries to follow up on the committee’s recommendations and advance the technical, operational, commercial and logistical aspects of the proposed routes toward implementation.
