Wärtsilä will invest approximately EUR 90 million to further expand its technical production capacity at its Sustainable Technology Hub in Vaasa, Finland.
The latest investment will increase Wärtsilä’s technical production capacity by an additional 30%.
Combined with the previously announced 35% expansion earlier this year, the company’s total planned capacity increase will reach 65% compared to 2025 levels.
Wärtsilä said the expansion will support rising global demand in the marine and energy sectors, particularly for fuel-efficient and flexible engine technologies.
The company expects the earlier 35% expansion to become operational in the first quarter of 2028, while the new 30% increase is scheduled for the first quarter of 2029.
“Demand in the energy and marine markets continues to develop positively,” said Håkan Agnevall, President and CEO of Wärtsilä.
He added that growth is being driven by rising electricity demand, data center expansion and stricter decarbonization regulations in shipping.
The investment will also strengthen Wärtsilä’s global supply chain and support long-term business growth.
Opened in 2022, Wärtsilä’s Sustainable Technology Hub in Vaasa spans 90,000 square meters and employs more than 3,800 professionals.
The facility manufactures all engine types in Wärtsilä’s portfolio and serves as a center for research, innovation and customer collaboration.
Since 2018, Wärtsilä has invested more than EUR 490 million in the Sustainable Technology Hub and related projects.
