Rhenus Logistics has joined forces with duisport, HGK Shipping and Viking Cruises to launch the Allianz Wasserstraße (Inland Waterway Alliance) in Germany.

The partners officially launched the initiative in Berlin. They aim to strengthen the role of inland waterways as a resilient and sustainable transport network for European supply chains.

According to Rhenus, the alliance will advocate for greater political support in Berlin and Brussels. Its priorities include increased investment, reliable policy decisions and a regulatory framework that supports modern inland waterway infrastructure.

Michael de Reese, CEO of Rhenus Port Logistics, said inland waterways deserve greater recognition because of their strategic importance to Europe’s logistics network.

The alliance will represent the inland waterway sector with a unified voice and promote the development of efficient, sustainable and future-ready transport infrastructure across Europe.
