HGK Group has reorganised its management structure, bringing its operational activities under two main divisions as the German logistics company seeks to strengthen its integrated operations along the Rhine corridor.

The new structure, effective from 1 October, separates the group’s activities into Integrated Logistics and Infra- and Suprastructure.

At the same time, Günter-Friedrich Maas has taken over as COO Contract Logistics, while Alexander Garbar has assumed the role of COO Infra- and Suprastructure.

Logistics activities brought under one division

The Integrated Logistics division combines HGK’s Transport Solutions, Contract Logistics Solutions and Intermodal Solutions businesses.

It covers shipping, rail freight, intermodal operations, terminals, warehousing, contract logistics, as well as overseas and seaport activities.

Maas will lead Contract Logistics and temporarily take responsibility for Intermodal Solutions. He has more than 25 years of experience in transport and logistics, including management positions at VTG, Hoyer, Rhenus, Imperial and Boasso.

Meanwhile, Markus Krämer will oversee the division’s market and customer activities as CCO.

New infrastructure division

HGK’s second operational division brings together its ports, real estate, network and locomotive workshop businesses.

Garbar will lead the division, with responsibility for the strategic and operational development of these activities and a particular focus on Cologne. He previously held senior roles in port development, infrastructure and logistics at the Port of Duisburg.

The restructuring is designed to strengthen cooperation between HGK’s logistics and infrastructure operations. The company also plans to further develop Cologne as a hinterland logistics hub and gateway to seaports.

Steffen Bauer will continue as CEO of HGK AG, while Susanne Pietsch remains CFO. The holding company will focus on the overall management and strategic development of the group.
