Port of Oakland kicks off 2025 on strong note

The Port of Oakland reported that the January loaded container volume reached 146,187 TEUs, translating to an 8.5% increase over the first month of 2024.

“Strong import growth reflects the resilience of Northern California’s economy and the confidence cargo owners have in our gateway,” said Port of Oakland Maritime Director Bryan Brandes.

He went on to add: “Export volumes remain steady, highlighting the continued global demand for U.S. agricultural and manufactured goods. This growth is a testament to the hard work and collaboration of our labor force, terminal operators, and supply chain partners. We appreciate their commitment and will continue working together to maintain efficiency and expand capacity to support our customers.”

Loaded imports experienced a 13% increase this year, with the Californian port processing 81,453 TEUs in January. Additionally, loaded exports registered more modest growth, rising 3.4% to 64,735 TEUs. At the same time, empty imports were reduced by 26.2%, with 12,625 TEUs leaving the Port in January, while empty exports increased by 19.8% to 34,363 TEUs.
