Fincantieri has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in Albania to support the development of a skilled workforce for the country’s growing shipbuilding industry.
The agreement was signed with KAYO, a company controlled by the Albanian Ministry of Defence, and the “Pavarësia” Vocational Institute of Vlora.
The partners will develop training programmes focused on shipbuilding and naval construction.
The signing ceremony took place at the Pashaliman shipyard in the presence of Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama and senior representatives from Fincantieri and KAYO.
During the event, the partners also officially introduced the joint venture Fincantieri Albania. The company will lead the modernisation and redevelopment of the Pashaliman shipyard.
The training programme will prepare students for careers in shipbuilding. It will include classroom education, practical training and internships.
Students will receive training in ship carpentry, hull construction, mechanical and electrical systems, HVAC, ship outfitting, painting and maintenance.
Fincantieri said it will contribute its technical expertise by helping develop the curriculum, training instructors and transferring industrial know-how.
The initiative supports the wider redevelopment of the Pashaliman shipyard into a naval construction and maintenance hub. The facility will focus on defence vessels, particularly Offshore Patrol Vessels (OPVs).
Fincantieri said the project will strengthen Albania’s shipbuilding capabilities while creating new employment opportunities and supporting the development of a local maritime supply chain.
Pierroberto Folgiero, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Fincantieri, said investing in training is essential for building a sustainable industrial ecosystem and strengthening maritime security across the Mediterranean.
