Nord Gas Solutions has secured a new order from Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) for two additional Very Large Ethane Gas Carriers (VLECs).
The company will supply cargo handling and fuel gas supply systems for the vessels. SHI will build the two VLECs at its shipyard in South Korea for an established Asian joint venture.
The latest order follows an earlier contract covering five VLECs. As a result, the programme now includes seven vessels using Nord Gas Solutions technology.
Nord Gas Solutions expands VLEC programme
Under the new contract, Nord Gas Solutions will engineer the cargo handling and fuel gas supply process plants.
The company will also provide the related equipment, instrumentation and cargo control system. Its scope includes interface materials between the cargo tanks and the hull.
In addition, Nord Gas Solutions specialists will support SHI throughout the construction and commissioning process.
“The award of these additional vessels is a strong vote of confidence from SHI. We are grateful for the continued trust in our solutions and look forward to supporting the successful delivery of these vessels,” said Harald Øverland, Sales Manager, Nord Gas Solutions.
Equipment deliveries are scheduled to begin in the second quarter of 2027.
Partnership continues with additional vessels
The latest order extends the cooperation between Nord Gas Solutions, SHI and MOL.
The previous contract covered systems for five VLECs. The addition of two more vessels further expands the programme and represents another repeat order for Nord Gas Solutions.
Meanwhile, the company has been operating under the Nord Gas Solutions brand since June 2026. The change followed Mutares’ acquisition of Wärtsilä Gas Solutions.
Nord Gas Solutions has since secured other major gas carrier contracts, including an order to equip eight new VLGCs for BW LPG.
