Nippon Express launches five-day US delivery option for Asia–US ocean freight

Nippon Express has expanded its NX Ocean Fast Track service with a new option offering delivery from the Port of Los Angeles to major destinations across the United States within five days.

The new service, called US 5-Day Cross, covers shipments from Tokyo, Shanghai and Haiphong via Los Angeles to destinations across the US.

It builds on NX Ocean Fast Track, which Nippon Express launched in June. The existing service is designed to move containers from the Port of Los Angeles within 24 hours of arrival.

Faster inland delivery from Los Angeles

Under the new option, cargo receives priority transshipment at Nippon Express warehouses near the Port of Los Angeles.

For long-haul transportation, the company uses two-driver teams to maintain continuous operations. As a result, shipments can reach major US cities within five days after being unloaded at the port.

The delivery commitment applies to locations within 100 miles of designated metropolitan areas.

Nippon Express said the service was developed in response to growing demand for faster and more reliable Asia–North America supply chains. The company pointed to longer ocean freight lead times linked to geopolitical risks, as well as delays affecting US rail transportation.

Real-time cargo monitoring

The US 5-Day Cross service also includes tracking and security technology for inland cargo movements.

Dedicated devices provide real-time location data and use light sensors to detect and issue alerts when cargo is opened without authorization.

The devices also monitor temperature, humidity and impacts during transportation. This allows Nippon Express to track both the location and condition of shipments during their inland journey.

By combining expedited port evacuation, priority warehouse handling and long-haul trucking, the expanded NX Ocean Fast Track service aims to reduce the time between vessel discharge in Los Angeles and final delivery across the United States.
