Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha (“K” LINE) has announced the naming of a newly built 174,000 cubic metre membrane-type LNG carrier, DIAMOND GAS JADE, during a ceremony held at Samsung Heavy Industries on May 19.
The vessel is owned by a joint venture company and is scheduled to serve the LNG Canada Project, in which Mitsubishi Corporation participates through its subsidiary Diamond Global Energy.
The naming ceremony was attended by Tetsuro Wada, Chief Executive Officer of Diamond Global Energy, and Yukikazu Myochin, Director and Chairperson of the Board of “K” LINE.
The vessel was named DIAMOND GAS JADE by Wada, inspired by jade, a well-known natural resource associated with British Columbia, Canada, where the LNG Canada Project is located. According to the companies, the name symbolises long-lasting prosperity and reflects hopes for the project’s long-term success.
The LNG carrier is being built by Samsung Heavy Industries and is expected to be delivered in August 2026. The vessel has an overall length of approximately 290 metres, a beam of 45.8 metres and a tank capacity of 174,000 cubic metres. It is equipped with an ME-GA propulsion system and has a service speed of 19.5 knots.
“K” LINE noted that the charter agreement with Diamond Global Energy represents its first long-term charter contract involving a newly built LNG carrier.
The company added that the vessel will support the global LNG supply chain through the safe and efficient transportation of liquefied natural gas, amid growing worldwide energy demand.
Under its medium-term management strategy, “K” LINE has identified the LNG business as one of its key investment priorities and said it plans to continue expanding long-term energy transportation contracts in the coming years.
