ICTSI orders 12 Kalmar hybrid straddle carriers for new Philippine terminal

Kalmar has concluded an agreement with International Container Terminal Services, Inc. (ICTSI) to supply a total of 12 Kalmar hybrid straddle carriers.

International Container Terminal Services, Inc. (ICTSI) has ordered 12 hybrid straddle carriers from Kalmar for its new South Luzon Container Terminal (SLCT) in the Philippines.

The equipment will be deployed at the terminal within Bauan International Port in Batangas. Delivery of all 12 machines is scheduled for completion during the third quarter of 2027.

The order was booked in Kalmar’s Q3 2026 order intake.

New terminal to handle 1.6 million TEUs

SLCT is being developed around 110 kilometres south of Manila and will support industrial and manufacturing activities in the region.

Once completed, the container terminal will have an 800-metre quay and 38 hectares of yard space. It will offer annual handling capacity of 1.6 million TEUs.

The order marks the first deployment of Kalmar straddle carriers at a terminal in the Philippines.

Hybrid equipment for container handling

The 12 machines will use Kalmar’s hybrid technology for container handling operations at the new terminal.

ICTSI will also use MyKalmar INSIGHT across the entire fleet. The system provides operational data that can be used to monitor and manage equipment performance.

Kalmar will also supply a straddle carrier simulator as part of the agreement. It will be installed at SLCT to train new operators and provide refresher training for existing personnel.

“The SLCT project represents a significant investment for our organisation and demonstrates what can be achieved through long-term collaboration and commitment,” said Arthur de Jonge, Senior Director Projects and Systems at ICTSI.

Kalmar and ICTSI extend partnership

Kalmar and ICTSI already work together at several container terminals around the world.

Daniel Ho, Vice President, GTO Key Account Management at Kalmar, said the latest agreement continues the companies’ long-standing relationship.

“We are proud to be able to deliver the very first Kalmar straddle carriers to a terminal in the Philippines,” he said.
