HJSC wins KRW 212.6 billion South Korean expressway contract

HJ Shipbuilding & Construction (HJSC) has been selected as the preferred bidder for Section 3 of the Jecheon–Yeongwol Expressway project in South Korea.

The contract, awarded by the Korea Expressway Corporation, is valued at KRW 212.6 billion (excluding VAT).

The project covers a 6.4-kilometre section between Jecheon-si and Danyang-gun in Chungcheongbuk-do.

HJSC will build a four-lane expressway measuring 23.4 metres wide. The project also includes five bridges, one tunnel and drainage infrastructure.

Construction is expected to take 84 months from the start date.

HJSC led the winning consortium with a 70% stake. The remaining shares are held by SHINSUNG CONSTRUCTION CORP., WOOIL Construction and CHEONGIN Construction, each with a 10% interest.

The tender attracted 25 domestic construction companies under South Korea’s comprehensive evaluation bidding system.

HJSC said the award reflects its experience in national transport infrastructure projects.

The company has previously participated in the Donghae (East Coast) Expressway, Donghongcheon–Yangyang Expressway, Samcheok–Donghae Expressway and Yeoju–Yangpyeong Expressway.

The company also said it continues to strengthen its position in South Korea’s public civil engineering market through major government infrastructure projects.

An HJSC official said the company will work closely with its partners while prioritising safety and quality throughout construction.
