HD Hyundai, BV develop anti-rolling system for container ships

HD Hyundai Heavy Industries and Bureau Veritas have launched a Joint Development Project (JDP) to develop a real-time onboard guidance system designed to reduce excessive rolling on container ships.

The project focuses on improving ship stability monitoring during operations and enhancing cargo safety at sea.

The maritime industry faces growing operational complexity. At the same time, cargo safety remains a major concern as carriers seek ways to reduce losses and cargo damage.

The new system will evaluate roll stability in real time during vessel operations.

Under the agreement, HD Hyundai Heavy Industries will assess the dynamic stability of its container ships according to Bureau Veritas requirements and relevant regulations.

The project will also validate the effectiveness of HD Hyundai’s Real-Time Onboard Guidance System in reducing excessive rolling and improving vessel performance.

“By working together with Bureau Veritas on this Joint Development Project, HHI’s Real-Time Onboard Guidance System will provide shipowners with practical solutions to prevent excessive rolling and protect their cargo,” said Hong-Ryeul Ryu, Senior Executive Vice President at HD Hyundai Heavy Industries.

He added that the collaboration demonstrates HHI’s ability to deliver reliable vessels capable of operating safely even in severe weather conditions.

The companies said stronger collaboration and advanced technologies remain critical as the shipping industry works to reduce operational risks and improve safety standards across container shipping.

The initiative reflects growing industry interest in digital solutions that strengthen vessel performance, cargo protection and operational safety.
