GXO Logistics has expanded its partnership with European retailer Action by opening operations at a new distribution center in Onnaing, northern France.
The 80,000 sqm facility is the third Action distribution center managed by GXO in France. It will serve stores in France and Belgium, with capacity to supply up to 290 locations once fully operational.
GXO already manages two Action distribution centers in France, located in Moissy-Cramayel and Labastide-Saint-Pierre.
New facility supports Action’s store network
At the Onnaing site, GXO will handle incoming goods, storage, order picking, shipping and returns. The new center will support Action’s growing retail network in northern France and Belgium.
“The new distribution centre in Onnaing will play a key role in supplying our stores in Northern France and Belgium and supporting Action’s future growth,” said Jens Burgers, Director of Supply Chain at Action.
The facility currently employs around 540 people. GXO expects this number to reach up to 1,000 by 2028 as operations expand.
The company is also working with local organisations to recruit and train employees. Around 80% of candidates who complete its training programme are hired, according to GXO.
Focus on efficient logistics operations
The new distribution center has been designed to support warehouse operations while reducing its environmental impact. It is targeting BREEAM Outstanding certification, the highest rating under the building sustainability assessment system.
GXO and Action have been expanding their logistics partnership to support the retailer’s growth across Europe. Alongside its three French facilities, GXO is also developing its partnership with Action in Italy.
The Onnaing center adds capacity to Action’s supply chain and strengthens GXO’s contract logistics operations in the region.
