Fincantieri and Viking have signed contracts for the construction of two new cruise ships, extending their long-standing shipbuilding partnership.
The vessels will be built at Fincantieri’s Ancona shipyard in Italy and are scheduled for delivery in 2032.
The contracts follow Viking’s exercise of options announced in April 2025. The agreement remains subject to financing and other customary terms and conditions.
New ships to accommodate 998 passengers
The two vessels will be based on features of Viking ships previously built by Fincantieri in Italy.
Each ship will have a gross tonnage of approximately 54,300 tonnes and will accommodate 998 passengers in 499 cabins.
The vessels will operate in the small cruise ship segment.
Fincantieri said they will comply with the latest environmental and navigation regulations. They will also feature modern safety systems.
Agreement valued at up to €1 billion
Fincantieri classified the agreement as a “large” cruise contract.
Under the shipbuilder’s classification, this means the agreement has a value of between €500 million and €1 billion.
“Today’s agreement marks another milestone in our long-standing partnership with Viking and serves as a powerful testament to the excellence and industrial expertise of our Ancona shipyard,” said Pierroberto Folgiero, CEO and Managing Director of Fincantieri.
He added that assigning the vessels to Ancona will support local employment and provide long-term continuity for the shipyard’s supply chain.
Fincantieri-Viking partnership reaches 28 ships
The latest contracts bring the partnership between Fincantieri and Viking to a total of 28 ships.
They also follow contracts announced earlier in 2026 for two new Viking expedition vessels.
The latest order continues Viking’s fleet expansion programme and strengthens its long-term shipbuilding relationship with Fincantieri.
