DNV has appointed Océane King as the new Head of its Miami Cruise Center, strengthening its leadership in the North American cruise market.
King returns to DNV after seven years at Royal Caribbean Group, where she worked on maritime technology, fleet innovation and decarbonization initiatives.
The Miami Cruise Center serves as DNV’s dedicated hub for the North American cruise sector. It provides cruise operators with access to expertise in classification, advisory services, digitalization and safety.
In her new role, King will lead the center and work with cruise operators and industry partners on technical, environmental and operational issues.
Extensive cruise and maritime experience
King brings more than 15 years of experience across cruise operations, newbuilding, maritime technology, risk management and decarbonization.
Before joining Royal Caribbean, she held several positions at DNV. She eventually became Head of Maritime Advisory Americas, where her responsibilities included newbuilding programs, vessel refurbishment, environmental technology implementation and port and terminal developments.
During her time at Royal Caribbean, King focused on technology development, fleet innovation and decarbonization. She also contributed to industry collaboration through a secondment with the Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller Center for Zero Carbon Shipping.
“We are pleased to welcome Océane King back to DNV,” said Cristina Saenz de Santa Maria, CEO Maritime, DNV. “As the cruise sector continues to advance fleet innovation and environmental performance, her expertise and industry perspective will be valuable as we continue to work closely with customers and industry stakeholders.”
King holds a PhD in Marine Technology from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology, with a focus on reducing emissions from ships.
“I am excited to return to DNV and to lead the Miami Cruise Center at a time of rapid transformation for the cruise industry,” said King. “Having worked both within DNV and as part of one of the world’s largest cruise companies, I understand the opportunities and challenges our customers face.”
