COSCO Shipping Lines will take slots on Hapag-Lloyd’s Mediterranean Canada (MCA) service, according to DynaLiners.
The Chinese carrier will market the connection under the Mediterranean Canada Service (MECA) brand.
The full MCA rotation covers:
Salerno – Livorno – Genoa – Marseille – Sagunto – Algeciras – Tangier – Vigo – Saint John – Montreal – Tangier – Salerno.
However, COSCO’s slot agreement will not cover the calls at Vigo in Spain or Saint John in Canada.
The move follows a similar arrangement involving COSCO’s sister carrier OOCL, which has also joined the Hapag-Lloyd-operated Mediterranean–Canada connection.
The service provides COSCO with additional coverage between major Mediterranean gateways and Montreal through a slot-charter arrangement rather than a separate operated loop.
