CMA CGM has announced a series of Peak Season Surcharge (PSS) updates covering trades to Africa, Mauritius, Europe and the United States.

The measures take effect between 21 September and 15 October, depending on the trade.

China to Africa and Mauritius

From 21 September, CMA CGM will apply new PSS levels on several trades from China to West Africa.

For shipments from Central and South China to Nigeria, Côte d’Ivoire, Benin and Equatorial Guinea, excluding Ghana and Togo, the surcharge will be US$50 per TEU.

Cargo from China and its Special Administrative Regions to Ghana and Togo will face a US$150 per TEU surcharge.

The carrier will also apply US$200 per TEU to destinations including Liberia, Mauritania, Gambia, Sierra Leone, Guinea-Bissau, Cape Verde and São Tomé and Príncipe. Guinea and Senegal are excluded from this range.

For Senegal, the surcharge will be US$100 per TEU.

Shipments to Angola, Congo, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Namibia, Gabon and Cameroon will face a US$75 per TEU surcharge.

The measures apply to dry and reefer cargo under short-term contracts.

Separately, CMA CGM will introduce a US$200 per TEU PSS from China, Northeast Asia and Southeast Asia to Port Louis, Mauritius, from 21 September.

CMA CGM adds Durban surcharge

From 25 September, the carrier will introduce a US$350 per TEU surcharge on shipments from China to Durban, South Africa.

The measure applies to all cargo and will remain in place until further notice.

For shipments originating in China, CMA CGM said the relevant surcharges will be subject to filing with the Shanghai Shipping Exchange and/or included in ocean freight.

Reefer surcharge from Europe to West Africa

CMA CGM is also updating its PSS for refrigerated cargo moving from Europe to West Africa.

From 1 October, reefer shipments from North Europe, the Baltic, Scandinavia, the West Mediterranean and Adriatic will face a surcharge of €200 per TEU.

North Europe-US surcharge postponed

Meanwhile, CMA CGM has postponed the introduction of its PSS03 from North Europe to the United States.

The surcharge was previously scheduled to take effect on 20 September. It will now apply from 1 October until further notice.

The measure covers shipments from North Europe, including North France, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Scandinavia, Poland, the Baltic and the northern Spanish ports of Bilbao, Gijon and Vigo. Portugal is excluded.

For cargo moving to the US East Coast, West Coast and Gulf, as well as inland destinations served through these gateways, the surcharge will be US$1,000 per 20-foot container and US$2,000 per 40-foot, 40-foot high-cube or 45-foot container.

It applies to dry and reefer cargo, while out-of-gauge shipments are excluded.

South America to Europe PSS

Finally, CMA CGM will introduce a US$200 per container surcharge from parts of South America’s east coast from 15 October.

The PSS covers shipments from Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay to North Europe, Scandinavia, the Baltic, Mediterranean, Adriatic and Black Sea markets. It also covers North Africa, the Middle East and Red Sea.

Northeastern Brazilian origins including Fortaleza, Manaus and Vila do Conde are excluded.

The measure applies to dry, out-of-gauge and special equipment under contracts with a validity of up to three months.
