CMA CGM raises West Africa surcharges and updates Mogadishu PSS

CMA CGM GRAND PALAIS

CMA CGM has announced new Peak Season Surcharge (PSS) levels for shipments from China to West Africa, alongside a separate surcharge update for cargo moving from the Far East to Mogadishu, Somalia.

From 22 October 2026, the carrier will apply higher PSS levels on dry and reefer cargo moving from China and its Special Administrative Regions to several West African markets.

For shipments to the Central West Africa range, including Nigeria, Côte d’Ivoire, Benin, Equatorial Guinea, Ghana and Togo, the surcharge will be US$350 per TEU.

Cargo destined for the South West Africa range will face a PSS of US$550 per TEU. This range includes Angola, Congo, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Namibia, Gabon and Cameroon.

The same US$550 per TEU surcharge will apply to the North West Africa range, covering Liberia, Senegal, Mauritania, Gambia, Sierra Leone, Guinea-Bissau, Cape Verde and São Tomé and Príncipe.

The PSS for Guinea Conakry remains unchanged at US$200 per TEU.

The new West Africa surcharges apply to short-term contracts.

New PSS for Mogadishu

Separately, CMA CGM will introduce a US$100 per TEU Peak Season Surcharge for all cargo moving from the Far East to Mogadishu.

The surcharge will take effect from 15 October 2026, based on the loading date, and will remain in place until further notice.

For shipments originating in China, CMA CGM noted that the announced surcharges will be subject to filing with the Shanghai Shipping Exchange and/or incorporated into the applicable ocean freight PSS.

The latest changes follow a series of surcharge adjustments by the French carrier across African trades as it updates pricing on several routes.
