CMA CGM applies new surcharges from Europe to America

The French ocean carrier CMA CGM has announced the implementation of new Peak Season Surcharges (PSS) for cargoes transferred from Europe to several ports of America.

Firstly, a new surcharge will be introduced in all shipments from the ports of Belgium, Germany, the Netherlands, France Atlantic, Sweden, Finland, Norway, Denmark, Poland, United Kingdom, Portugal and Spain Atlantic to the Latin American destinations of Ecuador, Peru, Chile, and Buenaventura in Colombia, as well as to the Mexican ports of Ensenada, Manzanillo, Lazaro Cardenas.

The PSS of US$1,144 (€1,000) per container will be set in dry boxes, including non-operating reefers (NOR), according to a statement.

CGM CGM said the surcharge, which will take effect on 1 March for Peru, Chile and Mexico, and on 10 March for Ecuador and Colombia, will have a short-term contract validity of three months maximum.

In addition, the Marseille-based box line will apply another PSS from ports of North Europe, Scandinavia and Poland to the Caribbean, Windward, Leeward, Guyana, and Central America, excluding Mexico.

This surcharge of US$228 (€200) per TEU will also have a short contract validity and will be introduced only in dry containers from 1 March in all destinations, except Colombia Atlantic, Panama Atlantic, North Brazil, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands where the surcharge will be effective from 10 March.

CMA CGM stated this PSS will not be applicable from France Atlantic to St Maarten and St Barthelemy in the Caribbean.

Furthermore, the company will impose another PSS of US$228 (€200) per TEU for dry containers from the Baltic Sea to the American destinations of Windward, Leeward and Guyana.

The surcharge will begin on 1 March for all ports except North Brazil and the Virgin Islands, where the charge will take effect on 12 March.

Last but not least, CMA CGM will set another short-term contract PSS of US$1,143 (€1,000) per TEU, and US$857 (€750) per FEU for special equipment and dry boxes, excluding NOR, from ports of West Mediterranean and Portugal to West Coast South and Central America, East Coast Central America, the Caribbean, Mexico West Coast, Guyana, Leeward and Windward.

This PSS will also be effective from 1 March, except the ports in Ecuador, Colombia, Venezuela, Panama, North Brazil, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands, where it will start on 12 March.
