CMA CGM has announced two new Peak Season Surcharges (PSS) for shipments from Asia to Mauritius and Kenya, with both charges taking effect in late October 2026.

The new surcharges apply to all cargo and range from US$1,000 to US$1,235 per TEU, depending on the origin and destination.

New surcharges for Port Louis and Mombasa

From October 28, CMA CGM will introduce a PSS of US$1,235 per TEU on shipments from the Far East to Port Louis, Mauritius.

A separate surcharge of US$1,000 per TEU will apply to cargo moving from South China and Hong Kong to Mombasa, Kenya, effective October 25, 2026.

The Mombasa surcharge will remain in effect until further notice. CMA CGM has not specified an expiry date for the Port Louis surcharge.

The carrier confirmed that both measures cover all cargo.

For shipments originating in China, the surcharges are subject to the relevant filings with the Shanghai Shipping Exchange and may be included in the ocean freight rate.

CMA CGM also noted that additional charges may apply alongside the announced PSS amounts.

These include bunker-related surcharges, terminal handling charges at origin and destination, and safety and security charges. Other contingency and local charges may also apply.

The announcements introduce additional shipping costs on the specified routes from Asia to East Africa and the Indian Ocean ahead of the final months of 2026.
