CFL Cargo, a sister business of CFL Multimodal, and Bertani Trasporti announced the opening of a new rail link between Gliwice Port in Poland and Marckolsheim in France.
CFL Cargo and Bertani Trasporti formalised their cooperation for a new train conducting two roundtrips per week and carrying vans from Gliwice Port to Marckolsheim across a distance of more than 1,300 km during this year's transport logistic expo in Munich.
This new, cross-border train with a carrying capacity of 19 waggons efficiently connects the rail corridors of Poland and France via Germany, while also encouraging modal shift by shifting the equivalent of more than 2,300 trucks from road to rail and saving about 10,200 tCO2 per year, according to a statement.
The rail traction is provided by CFL cargo in Germany and France, in cooperation with DB Cargo Polska which is taking over in Poland.
"This new connection between Gliwice Port and Marckolsheim is an extension of our network in Europe and will give us the opportunity to strengthen our service offering for Eastern, Central and West Europe,” stated Sven Löffler, chief commercial officer of CFL Multimodal.
