APM Terminals Gothenburg in Sweden reported increased container volumes by 8%, translating to 17,000 TEUs, in the first quarter of 2023, compared with the same period last year.
Additionally, APM Terminals’ ship productivity, estimated by the number of container lifts per hour, increased by 14% year-on-year during the first quarter of 2023.
Maersk-owned port operator said the ships are now better equipped to arrive within their time window because there are no major bottlenecks in the global logistics chain. From about three out of ten vessels arriving at APM Terminals within the specified time, an average of seven out of ten vessels are now arriving on time, according to the company’s announcement.
“A year ago, the delays were often 1–2 days, now we’re talking about hours,” highlighted Martin Karlsson, operational manager at APM Terminals Gothenburg.
At the beginning of the year, APM Terminals began cooperating with three new destinations in Sweden, Malmö, Helsingborg and Sundsvall. “These partnerships contribute to strengthening the country’s entire logistics chain,” noted the operator.
APM Terminals added that handling time at its gates has decreased from an average of 36 minutes in the first quarter of 2022 to an average of 28.5 minutes in the first three months of 2023, while trucks that collect/leave empty boxes have a handling time of less than 20 minutes.
