Yangzijiang Xinfu Shipbuilding has delivered YANGZE LNG 01, a 175,000 cbm LNG carrier. According to Bureau Veritas, it is the first LNG carrier of this size with a membrane containment system built by a Chinese private shipbuilder.
The delivery marks an important step for Yangzijiang Xinfu, part of Yangzijiang Shipbuilding Group. It also highlights the shipyard’s growing role in the construction of large LNG carriers.
Bureau Veritas Marine & Offshore (BV) provided classification services and technical support throughout the project.
YANGZE LNG 01 features dual-fuel propulsion
The new LNG carrier measures 297 metres in length, 46 metres in breadth and 26.5 metres in depth.
It uses the GTT Mark III Flex membrane containment system. This system has a theoretical daily boil-off rate of 0.085%.
The vessel also features two MAN B&W 5G70ME-C10.5-GA-EGR dual-fuel engines. These engines can operate on both fuel oil and gas.
In addition, the ship meets applicable International Maritime Organization (IMO) emission standards under both fuel modes.
Bureau Veritas awarded the vessel several class notations. These include LNGfuel dualfuel, AVM-DPS for propulsion redundancy, SYS-NEQ-1 for one-person bridge operations, CLEAN SHIP and GREEN PASSPORT.
Delivery strengthens China’s LNG shipbuilding capabilities
The completion of YANGZE LNG 01 represents a milestone for China’s private shipbuilding industry.
Large LNG carriers require advanced containment systems and specialised construction capabilities. Therefore, the delivery marks an important achievement for Yangzijiang Xinfu.
“YANGZE LNG 01 is the first 175,000 cbm LNG carrier ever built by a Chinese private shipbuilder. Its successful delivery marks a historic breakthrough for Yangzijiang Xinfu in high-end clean energy ship construction,” the shipyard said.
Meanwhile, Bureau Veritas supported the project through design reviews, technical assessments and classification services.
Jeffrey Guo, Senior Vice President, Marine & Offshore Asia Pacific at Bureau Veritas, welcomed the delivery. He also highlighted the cooperation between the classification society and the shipyard.
Looking ahead, both companies plan to strengthen their partnership on LNG carriers and other vessel projects.
The delivery adds a major LNG carrier project to Yangzijiang Xinfu’s portfolio. It also demonstrates the shipyard’s ability to build large gas carriers with advanced containment and propulsion technologies.
