DHL Supply Chain is progressing with the construction of a new logistics center in Jena-Apolda, Germany. The facility will provide nearly 27,000 square meters of warehouse space and is scheduled for completion in March 2027.

The project will expand DHL Supply Chain’s logistics network in central Germany. It will mainly support companies in the technology and industrial sectors.

The new center will occupy a 64,700-square-meter site in Apolda, Thuringia. In addition to warehouse space, it will include more than 2,300 square meters of offices and employee facilities.

DHL Supply Chain recently marked a construction milestone at the site, bringing the project closer to its planned completion.

New logistics center to support industrial supply chains

The Jena-Apolda logistics center will serve businesses across several industries. These include semiconductors, high-tech manufacturing, healthcare and battery technologies.

Its location between Jena, Erfurt and Weimar provides access to major industrial and technology centers in central Germany.

The facility will also support existing customers, including ZEISS, which operates in the nearby Jena region.

“With our new site in Apolda, we are making a targeted investment in the fast-growing Jena region, a leading center for technology and innovation and a region with strong potential for technological advancement and sustainable economic development,” said Katrin Hölter, CEO of DHL Supply Chain Germany & Alps.

The new location will also provide additional capacity for future business growth.

DHL targets further growth in Thuringia

DHL Supply Chain expects the facility to create between 50 and 70 jobs when operations begin in spring 2027.

The workforce is expected to increase to approximately 100–120 employees by 2028.

Meanwhile, the logistics center will include several energy-efficient technologies.

These include photovoltaic panels, air-source heat pumps, energy storage systems and charging infrastructure for electric vehicles.

The building is being developed in line with the Gold certification criteria of the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB).

In addition, DHL has designed the facility to accommodate future warehouse automation and digitalization.

The investment will strengthen DHL Supply Chain’s presence in Thuringia and provide additional logistics capacity for industrial customers across central Germany.
