Wan Hai Lines has completed a commercial Musang King durian shipment by sea using controlled-atmosphere reefer technology.
The shipment involved Malaysian tree-ripened durians, which traditionally move by air freight or in frozen form because of their short shelf life.

Wan Hai used controlled-atmosphere containers to regulate oxygen and carbon dioxide levels while maintaining a stable temperature throughout the voyage.
According to the carrier, the technology preserved the fruit’s freshness and quality during the nearly two-week journey.
The Musang King durian shipment arrived in good condition and received positive feedback from the customer, demonstrating the potential for transporting premium fresh produce over longer distances by sea.
Wan Hai said the trial could provide agricultural exporters with a more scalable and cost-effective alternative to air freight.
The carrier plans to expand the application of controlled-atmosphere technology and develop further cold-chain solutions for high-value agricultural products.
