Valenciaport and port of Ningbo advance green corridor

Valenciaport and the Port of Ningbo have supported the signing of a practical implementation agreement for the Ningbo-Valencia Green Corridor

Valenciaport and the Port of Ningbo have supported the signing of a practical implementation agreement for the Ningbo-Valencia Green Corridor, marking the transition of the initiative from a declaration of intent to an active operational framework.

The agreement was signed by MSC, Senior Auto, the China Waterborne Transport Research Institute and the Valenciaport Foundation, linked to MSC’s Jade maritime service connecting the two ports.

The initiative was further reinforced by the participation of Spain’s Ministry of Economy and Puertos del Estado offices in Shanghai at the Maritime Silk Road Port Cooperation Forum held in Ningbo, where the President of the Port Authority of Valencia also attended institutional meetings and high-level roundtables.

The China Waterborne Transport Research Institute and the Valenciaport Foundation will contribute scientific expertise to the corridor, including carbon footprint calculations and related analytical tasks, defining the emissions reduction objectives to be met by each actor across the logistics and maritime chain.

The agreement establishes an open and flexible framework designed to accommodate additional participants over time, reflecting the corridor’s ambition to serve as a scalable model for decarbonising the Asia-Europe trade lane.

Valenciaport has positioned itself as both a witness to and a driving force behind the alliance.

The green corridor sits within a broader commercial relationship of growing significance. China remains Valenciaport’s principal trading partner in both container and total cargo volume terms.

In the first four months of 2026, trade between Valenciaport and China exceeded 3.3 million tonnes, a 23.78% increase year-on-year, while container traffic reached 308,206 TEUs, up 25.25%.

The Port of Ningbo-Zhoushan is among the world’s leading maritime logistics hubs, making the partnership strategically significant for connectivity between Asia and Europe.
