The Moroccan Tanger Med Port complex has handled 7,173,870 TEU in 2021, achieving a year-on-year growth of 24% in container volumes during 2021.
This traffic is mainly driven by the optimisation of Tanger Med 2 Port, after the commissioning of Container Terminal 4 (TC4) in 2019 and Container Terminal 3 (TC3) in 2021.
“This result confirms the leadership of Tanger Med in the Mediterranean and Africa, and consolidates the position of this major hub for global maritime alliances led respectively by Maersk, CMA CGM and Hapag Lloyd,” noted the port in a statement.
Regarding the overall tonnage achieved at the Mediterranean port, a record of 101 million tons of goods was handled for the first time in 2021, reflecting a rise of 25% compared to the previous year.
This number also represents more than 50% of the overall tonnage handled by all Moroccan ports, according to Tanger Med Port Authority.
