Seatrium has secured its ninth floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) conversion project from Karpowership, extending a partnership that has delivered seven FSRUs since 2018.

The newly awarded project will see the LNG carrier LNGT Akdeniz converted into an FSRU. Work is scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2027.

Seatrium’s scope includes engineering, conversion, integration, installation and commissioning of the vessel’s regasification equipment and associated systems.

LNGT Akdeniz to offer 600 MMscfd capacity

The LNGT Akdeniz will have regasification capacity of up to 600 million standard cubic feet per day (MMscfd).

Once completed, the vessel will join the LNG fleet of Kinetics, Karpowership’s energy transition initiative. The addition of LNGT Akdeniz is expected to expand the Kinetics LNG fleet to 12 vessels.

“The successful delivery of LNGT Türkiye and the award of LNGT Akdeniz are important milestones in the continued growth of Karpowership’s LNG-to-Power business,” said Gokhan Kocak, Chief Technical Operations Officer, Karpowership.

According to Kocak, the FSRUs will strengthen the company’s ability to provide flexible energy solutions in markets where energy security is critical.

The latest award follows the delivery of seven FSRUs by Seatrium and the ongoing conversion of LNGT Karadeniz, the companies’ eighth FSRU project.

Second project under existing agreement

LNGT Akdeniz is the second FSRU conversion to materialise under a previously announced Letter of Intent between Seatrium and Karpowership, following LNGT Karadeniz.

The agreement provides for three potential FSRU conversions. It also covers the potential integration of up to six new-generation Powerships.

“The award of LNGT Akdeniz, our ninth FSRU project with Karpowership and the second unit in Karpowership’s next-generation FSRU series, is a testament to the strength of this collaboration,” said Alvin Gan, Executive Vice President, Repairs and Upgrades, Seatrium.

Seatrium has completed 22 FSRU and floating storage unit conversion projects since 2007. Meanwhile, Karpowership operates a fleet of 45 Powerships.
