Shipping Corporation of India (SCI) has issued an international tender for up to six LNG dual-fuel container ships.

The tender covers two firm orders and four optional vessels. Each ship will offer a capacity of 8,000 TEUs.

Vessel specifications

SCI intends to deploy the new vessels on deep-sea trades.

Moreover, each containership will feature around 1,000 reefer plugs.

Tender open to international shipyards

The tender is open to shipbuilders in India and other countries.

However, qualified Indian shipyards will hold a Right of First Refusal. This provision reflects the Indian government’s plans to strengthen the country’s shipbuilding industry.
