New rail connection between Rotterdam & Venlo

APM Terminals Maasvlakte II has set up a new rail shuttle to the Cabooter Terminal in Venlo. Under the new schedule, a total of three trains will be loading and unloading at this terminal every week. The trains will carry both import and export cargo. The new initiative doubles the number of rail connections between Rotterdam and Venlo’s Cabooter Terminal.

“The shuttle to Venlo will help us to move containers more quickly from Rotterdam to the hinterland,” says Roy de Haan, APM’s Head of Commerce Management. “Venlo is an important logistics hub. And with the new rail terminal on the horizon, we are basically assured of future growth in traffic of this kind.”

Hans Cabooter, CEO of Cabooter Group Venlo: “This rail connection contributes to the modal shift. Containers no longer have to be despatched by truck, but rather arrive at the terminal by train. This reduces the risk of potential congestion in the area around Rotterdam. And for Venlo, the shuttle further enhances the city’s already strong logistics position.”

The APM terminal Maasvlakte II has a capacity of 2.7 million TEU. The Venlo-based Cabooter Group is a family business that has been working in the logistics sector since 1959. The firm handles some 550,000 m² of logistics activities.
