Associated British Ports has welcomed the arrival of two further quay cranes at DP World Southampton, completing a GBP 60 million investment programme that represents Europe’s largest quay crane investment and further strengthening Southampton’s position as a leading UK gateway for global trade.
The delivery of the final two cranes completes a set of four, which together enhance Southampton’s ability to accommodate the world’s largest container ships and support continued growth in international trade.
The completion marks the latest in a series of significant milestones for the Port of Southampton in 2026, a year that has also seen successful calls by some of the world’s largest cruise, automotive and container vessels.
Alastair Welch, ABP Regional Director for Southampton, congratulated DP World on the crane deliveries and described the completion as the latest in a line of landmark achievements for the port in 2026, reaffirming ABP’s ambition for Southampton’s role in supporting jobs, trade and economic growth.
The container terminal, operated by DP World, handles approximately two million containers annually, connecting UK businesses with global markets, and is owned and managed by ABP as part of its continued investment in infrastructure supporting long-term port success, supply chain resilience and regional economic development.
