Port of Hueneme secured $11.25 million in federal funding through the U.S. Maritime Administration’s Port Infrastructure Development Program (PIDP) to expand capacity and modernize port infrastructure.
The funding will support wharf and berth upgrades aimed at improving cargo efficiency, safety, and operational capacity at the California port.
Port officials said the project will help the port handle future cargo growth while strengthening supply chain resilience and supporting national defense operations.
The project also includes dredging work to complete the port’s 25-year harbor deepening program. The upgrades will improve navigation for larger vessels and support increasing demand from shipping customers.
According to the port, approximately 25,300 cubic yards of berth-side sand removed during dredging will help replenish nearby beaches in the City of Port Hueneme.
The federal funding builds on a previous $80 million award from the California State Transportation Agency’s Port and Freight Infrastructure Program.
Kristin Decas said the investment will help expand import and export opportunities while supporting local job creation.
The Port of Hueneme is one of the United States’ main gateways for fresh produce and automobile imports.
