Fincantieri, Republikorp partner on naval shipbuilding in Indonesia

Fincantieri and Indonesia’s defense holding company Republikorp have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish a strategic partnership for naval shipbuilding in Indonesia.

The agreement, signed at the Eurosatory defense exhibition in Paris, includes plans to create a joint venture through Republikorp’s subsidiary PT Republik Palindo Internasional (RPAL).

The partnership aims to strengthen Indonesia’s domestic shipbuilding industry and support the country’s goal of greater defense self-reliance.

The proposed joint venture will focus on the local construction of advanced naval vessels, including landing platform docks (LPDs), landing helicopter docks (LHDs), frigates, corvettes, offshore patrol vessels, fast attack craft and submarines.

The agreement also includes technology transfer, engineering cooperation and training programs. Fincantieri said the initiative will help develop local design, production and system integration capabilities while supporting the growth of Indonesia’s maritime supply chain.

“Building on our established cooperation with the Indonesian Navy, this MoU marks a further step in strengthening a long-term strategic partnership between Fincantieri and Indonesia,” said Pierroberto Folgiero, CEO and Managing Director of Fincantieri. “We are committed to supporting the development of local industrial capabilities and contributing to a more resilient maritime ecosystem.”

Norman Joesoef, Chairman of Republikorp Group, said the partnership supports Indonesia’s ambition to strengthen its defense industry while expanding international cooperation. “Together with Fincantieri, we see an opportunity to strengthen Indonesia’s maritime capabilities, develop national talent and contribute to a more resilient regional defense ecosystem.”
