Port of Helsinki reports over 490,000 TEUs in 2022

Port of Helsinki handled 492,000 TEUs in 2022, which represents a 5.4% growth compared with the previous year’s numbers.

The Finnish port reported that 3.8 million tonnes of containerised cargo were moved through the port, while the overall cargo traffic of the port was 15.2 million tonnes, translating to a 5.6% increase year-on-year.

The aforementioned cargo volume splits into 7.7 million tonnes of exports and 7.3 million tonnes of imports.

The majority of commodities handled via the Port of Helsinki are unitised cargo for Finland’s international commerce, i.e. freight transported on trucks, trailers, and containers. The overall volume of unitised cargo in 2022 was 12.6 million tonnes (+3.8%).

“An all-time record amount of goods were transported via our ports last year. The significant growth in cargo traffic continued until late August, after which it slowed down to slightly lower rates than the previous year,” said Ville Haapasaari, managing director of Port of Helsinki.
