The Port of Helsinki and Terramare Oy have signed a contract worth approximately EUR 23.9 million for the refurbishment of the LJ6 quay at the West Harbour in Jätkäsaari.

Construction work will begin in July 2026, with preparation activities commencing immediately and main quay works starting in August once Tallink’s M/S Victoria I passenger-car ferry has relocated to the adjacent LJ8 quay.

The project is expected to be completed in 2028.

The LJ6 quay contract encompasses the demolition of the existing quay structure, dredging works, the manufacture and installation of new quay sections, and the procurement and installation of quay equipment.

The works form part of the broader redevelopment of the West Harbour aimed at consolidating ferry traffic to Tallinn in the Jätkäsaari area.

Ari Parviainen, Project Director for the West Harbour renovations at the Port of Helsinki, described the project as exceptionally demanding from both technical and logistical perspectives, given that it will be carried out alongside continuous passenger and freight operations at Finland’s busiest passenger port.

Hannu Tomperi, Managing Director of Terramare, described the project as a demonstration of the company’s specialist expertise in complex marine and infrastructure structures.

Terramare brings decades of experience in port, bridge and coastal construction across Finland to the assignment, which the company characterised as a contribution to shaping the future of the Port of Helsinki.
