Bureau Veritas (BV) and Shenzhen Port Group have signed a strategic cooperation agreement to accelerate the development of a Green Shipping Corridor (GSC) in China.
The agreement aims to reduce carbon emissions from maritime transport while strengthening Shenzhen’s position as a global green shipping hub.
The partners will work together on green shipping corridor projects and other sustainability initiatives. They also plan to develop solutions that can be replicated at other ports.
Bureau Veritas will provide technical support to Shenzhen Port Group and other industry stakeholders.
The classification society will help partners understand evolving international maritime regulations and implement practical measures that align with global standards.
BV will also contribute its expertise across the green fuel value chain. Its services cover testing, inspection and certification for renewable energy production, alternative marine fuels and bunkering infrastructure.
The company said it has gained extensive experience through its involvement in a number of green fuel projects in China.
Alex Gregg-Smith, President of Bureau Veritas Marine & Offshore, said the shipping industry’s decarbonisation requires close cooperation across the maritime sector.
He said partnerships between ports, classification societies and industry stakeholders are essential to accelerate the adoption of low-carbon technologies and alternative fuels.
The agreement strengthens Bureau Veritas’ role in supporting maritime decarbonisation and the development of greener port infrastructure.
