Port Everglades on track to break annual cargo volume record

Port Everglades has achieved strong performance in terms of cargo volume during the past two months, breaking May and June records.

New ocean shipping services from India, Turkey, and Greece have enhances cargo volumes of Port Everglades, according to a statement.

“Unlike the downturn that we typically experience at the end of our busy melon season, we had a spike in May and June because of the new Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) services from South Asia and the Mediterranean,” said Port Everglades chief executive and port director, Jonathan Daniels.

“We are on track to shatter our annual record from 2018,” he pointed out.

More specifically, in May 2022, Port Everglades recorded 97,502 TEU, up 4% from the port’s previous record set in May 2015.

In June, the port’s containerised cargo volumes reached 94,106 TEU, increased by 5% from the previous record for the same month in 2018.
