Peel Ports Group has appointed David Huck as its new Group Chief Executive Officer, following the departure of Claudio Veritiero earlier this month.
Huck moves into the role from his previous position as Chief Operating Officer. He has spent 16 years with the company, including almost a decade on its executive leadership team.
He will now lead the UK’s second-largest port group, which generates £820 million in annual revenue and handles more than 60 million tonnes of cargo each year.
Extensive experience in port operations
As Chief Operating Officer, Huck oversaw Peel Ports Group’s operations across the UK and Ireland. His responsibilities covered six ports, 24 terminals and more than 2,000 employees and third-party logistics personnel.
He also helped deliver over £1.5 billion in infrastructure investments during his time with the company.
Before joining Peel Ports, Huck spent six years at Hutchison Ports UK, where he became Deputy Head of Container Terminal Operations. His work included terminal expansion, operational improvements and customer relationships.
Mark Whitworth, Executive Chairman of Peel Ports Group, said Huck’s experience would support the company’s next stage of development.
“In his new role, David will oversee all Peel Ports Group’s day-to-day operations, lead our executive leadership team and spearhead the next phase of our strategic vision,” said Whitworth.
Focus on growth and infrastructure
As CEO, Huck will focus on increasing cargo volumes, improving port operations and supporting further investment in infrastructure and technology.
The company also plans to continue developing its terminal network and strengthening its role in UK trade.
“I am proud to succeed Claudio, who has led Peel Ports Group through a period of significant growth, investment and transformation during his five-year tenure,” said Huck.
Veritiero stepped down earlier in October after five years as CEO.
Huck’s appointment provides continuity in the company’s leadership as Peel Ports Group pursues its long-term growth and investment plans.
