Nippon Express completes acquisition of Metro Supply Chain Group

Nippon Express Holdings has completed its acquisition of Canada-based Metro Supply Chain Group, strengthening its contract logistics operations in North America and expanding its global supply chain capabilities.

The Japanese logistics group acquired all shares of Metro Supply Chain Group on 1 October 2026. The transaction follows the acquisition agreement previously announced by Nippon Express.

The completion brings Metro Supply Chain Group under the ownership of Nippon Express Holdings, providing the company with an established logistics platform across Canada, the United States and the United Kingdom.

Metro Supply Chain Group reported consolidated revenue of CAD 1.38 billion (approximately US$1 billion) for the financial year ending 30 September 2025. Its consolidated operating profit reached CAD 56.4 million.

Metro to become key platform for global contract logistics

Nippon Express plans to position Metro Supply Chain Group as a central platform for its global contract logistics business.

The Canadian company provides third-party logistics services across several industries, including retail, consumer goods, automotive, manufacturing, healthcare and technology.

Through the acquisition, Nippon Express aims to strengthen its distribution operations and expand its end-to-end supply chain solutions.

The group also intends to introduce Metro’s fulfillment capabilities and warehouse automation technologies across its operations in Europe and Asia.

These capabilities include order processing, inventory management and shipping operations.

Expansion of forwarding and customs services

The acquisition is also expected to create opportunities for cooperation between the two companies’ existing customer networks.

Nippon Express plans to offer international freight forwarding and customs brokerage services to Metro Supply Chain Group’s customers.

At the same time, the group intends to use Metro’s contract logistics relationships to develop additional international transportation business.

The companies marked the completion of the transaction with an employee meeting and closing ceremony in Montreal on 7 October.

Satoshi Horikiri, President and CEO of Nippon Express Holdings, attended alongside Chiko Nanji, Founder and Group Chairman of Metro Supply Chain Group, and other executives.

The acquisition represents a further step in Nippon Express Holdings’ strategy to expand its North American presence while strengthening its integrated logistics services across international markets.
