Nexxiot, an Internet of Things (IoT) logistics solutions provider, has unveiled its latest gateway device named Globehopper Edge for intermodal shipping container monitoring, which uses big data-enabled traceability and analytics to deliver intermodal visibility for container cargo.
Furthermore, the new hardware is a self-sustaining, zero-maintenance wireless connectivity device capable of transmitting thousands of data points every day from multiple onboard sensors that transmit information about a container such as precise location, temperature and environmental conditions.
According to a statement, the company’s cloud-based software solution which is designed to communicate in real-time with Nexxiot Connect optimises asset utilisation through artificial intelligence (AI) powered machine learning.
“Combining state-of-the-art sensors, gateways and global connectivity, Globehopper Edge is the most advanced cargo monitoring device in the world today with the present and future capabilities to provide our customers with the most reliable information possible about their cargo,” claimed Nexxiot CEO, Stefan Kalmund.
The device which was engineered by Nexxiot’s own Zurich-based Research and Development (R&D) lab is solar-powered with a guaranteed lifetime of more than six years, according to the Swiss company.
It is also fitted to the outside of a standard shipping container and paired within 90 seconds, providing access to data, dashboards and insights for many years into the future.
“We created Globehopper Edge to take that next step in trade facilitation,” pointed out Nexxiot Co-Founder, Daniel MacGregor.
“Aimed squarely at the 30 million standard intermodal containers that travel around the planet, the rugged IP65, custom-engineered, energy harvesting hardware provides unprecedented access to data needed to enable radical transformation for all participants and stakeholders in the global network of trade, finance and transportation,” he added.
