MSC confirmed that its vessel MSC Sariska V was hit by two projectiles while departing the port of Um-Qasr, Iraq, raising fresh concerns over security risks facing commercial shipping in the region.

The company said the first projectile struck while the vessel was leaving port with the pilot onboard.

A second projectile later hit the crew accommodation area.

MSC confirmed that all crew members remained safe and no injuries were reported.

The carrier said crew members acted quickly to secure both the vessel and its cargo following the incident.

According to MSC, local media reports indicate the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps claimed responsibility for the attack, describing it as retaliation linked to recent US actions involving the vessel Lion Star.

MSC rejected claims linking the company to either the United States or Israel.

The company emphasized that it operates as a neutral commercial carrier headquartered in Switzerland and owned by the Italian Aponte family.

The incident adds further pressure on maritime operations in the region as shipowners continue navigating elevated security risks across Middle East trade routes.

MSC said it remains deeply concerned about growing threats to seafarers and the wider impact on regional maritime trade.
