Matson doubles Q1 profit despite flat container volumes

In the first quarter of 2025, Matson reported a net profit of US$72.3 million—more than double its earnings from the same period last year—driven by a 10% increase in revenue to US$637.4 million.

However, this financial growth was not matched by a corresponding rise in container volumes, which edged up only 1% to 183,000 TEUs. Strong performance in the Hawaii and Alaska trades was partially offset by declines in other shipping corridors, according to the company’s statement.

Notably, Transpacific volumes fell by 1%, even as overall market volumes in that trade lane grew significantly during the quarter.
