The European MAGPIE project has inaugurated a public exhibition at Portlantis, the interactive experience centre at the Port of Rotterdam, offering visitors direct engagement with innovations being developed and tested to accelerate the transition toward smarter, greener and more resilient port operations across Europe.
The exhibition presents a curated selection of MAGPIE’s most tangible innovations through physical objects, scale models and augmented reality storytelling.
Featured solutions include an offshore charging system, a hybrid shunting locomotive and automated truck charging infrastructure, illustrating progress across cleaner fuels, low-emission transport, advanced digital tools and smarter logistics.
MAGPIE is co-funded by the European Union and coordinated by the Port of Rotterdam, bringing together 45 partners from across Europe to develop and demonstrate practical solutions for ports navigating the energy transition, climate objectives and industrial competitiveness challenges.
The Portlantis exhibition represents a significant public milestone for the project, creating an accessible venue where the general public, students, professionals and policymakers can engage with innovations moving from concept to real-world application.
Berte Simons, COO of the Port of Rotterdam, described the logistics industry as undergoing its most significant transformation in decades and positioned the port and its MAGPIE partners at the forefront of that change.
She characterised the exhibition as a demonstration of the consortium’s ability to convert plans and pilots into tangible solutions visible to a broader audience.
The exhibition forms part of MAGPIE’s wider dissemination strategy, aimed at strengthening collaboration between European ports, increasing public awareness of the port sector’s role in building a climate-neutral future and inspiring further investment and follow-up action across the continent.
