Maersk will launch a new WAF1 service and revise three existing West Africa services as part of an update to its Western Mediterranean network.

The changes, scheduled to take effect from the third week of December 2026, will expand direct connections through Algeciras and Tangier to several West African markets.

New WAF1 connection to Dakar

The new WAF1 service will provide a dedicated connection between Algeciras, Tangier and Dakar.

Its rotation will be:

Algeciras – Tangier – Dakar – Algeciras

According to Maersk, the service will improve connectivity to Dakar, including for cargo originating in Asia Pacific and the Middle East.

The latest announcement does not clarify whether WAF1 will replace or operate alongside the previously announced WAF2 service, which was also scheduled to connect Algeciras, Tangier and Dakar.

WAF5 expands Central West Africa coverage

Maersk will also introduce a new Western Mediterranean rotation for WAF5, connecting Algeciras and Tangier with five West African ports.

The WAF5 rotation will be:

Algeciras – Tangier – Monrovia – Abidjan – Takoradi – San-Pedro – Lagos – Algeciras

The carrier said the revised service would strengthen its coverage across Central West Africa and support important export cargo flows from the region.

WAF3 and WAF6 receive additional calls

The port coverage of WAF3 will be updated to include Tema, Onne and Pointe-Noire, providing direct connections between the Western Mediterranean and these markets.

Meanwhile, WAF6 will be expanded with the addition of Cotonou.

Maersk has not provided the complete revised rotations for WAF3 and WAF6 in its latest announcement.

The network adjustments are expected to become effective from the third week of December in the Western Mediterranean. Maersk noted that the schedules remain subject to change.
