Maersk will introduce a new Port Security Service Export surcharge for cargo originating from the United States and Canada.
The new charge will take effect on 1 October 2026. According to Maersk, it will recover terminal-related security costs associated with export cargo.
Different charges for US and Canada exports
The surcharge will vary depending on the country of origin.
For cargo loaded in the United States, Maersk will charge US$15 per container.
Exports from Canada will face a charge of US$12 per container.
| Origin | Port Security Service Export |
|---|---|
| United States | US$15 per container |
| Canada | US$12 per container |
For FMC-regulated cargo, including exempt cargo loaded at US ports, the effective date will depend on when Maersk takes possession of the final container covered by the bill of lading.
For cargo loaded in Canada, the effective date will be based on the vessel’s scheduled sailing date.
Maersk noted that the charges will be assessed on a prepaid basis unless otherwise specified in the customer’s shipping instructions.
