Maersk expands AI-powered Trade & Tariff Studio

Maersk has expanded its Trade & Tariff Studio, an AI-powered platform designed to help businesses manage customs, tariff and compliance decisions.

The enhanced platform connects trade planning, pre-entry review, customs execution, reporting and post-declaration audit support within a single workflow.

It builds on the initial launch of Trade & Tariff Studio in 2025.

Platform targets earlier customs decisions

Maersk said the platform is designed to help businesses identify customs risks before goods enter the supply chain.

It combines the company’s customs expertise with artificial intelligence to provide guidance on product classification, duty impacts and government agency requirements.

“The future of customs will be more predictive, more connected and more closely tied to the decisions businesses make long before goods reach the border,” said Mark Zeitlin, Global Head of Customs Innovation at Maersk.

“With Maersk Trade & Tariff Studio, we’re helping customers bring trade intelligence into sourcing, product design and compliance planning earlier,” he added.

AI tools support classification and sourcing

The enhanced platform provides AI-powered Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) guidance to help users assess product classifications and duty implications.

Businesses can also model how different materials, production locations and tariff changes could affect landed costs.

For companies managing large product portfolios, the platform supports bulk classification of thousands of stock keeping units (SKUs).

It can also continuously scan regulatory developments, tariff actions and customs rulings to identify emerging trade risks.

In addition, the platform covers requirements from government agencies, including the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

Conversational AI interface

Users can access the system through a conversational AI interface.

They can submit questions using natural language or upload product photos and technical documents. Product links can also be submitted to generate trade and compliance insights.

Maersk said the platform can support automated document generation, compliance workflows and post-declaration reviews to improve audit readiness.

Unlike customs software focused primarily on filing at the point of entry, Trade & Tariff Studio is designed to cover a broader customs lifecycle.

The platform is aimed particularly at high-volume retailers, manufacturers, regulated industries and multinational companies managing complex international trade requirements.

It also complements Maersk’s wider customs and logistics services by connecting trade intelligence with customs operations and physical supply chain execution.
