MacGregor wins 165-tonne crane order for Jan De Nul newbuild

MacGregor has secured a contract to supply a 165-tonne active heave compensated (AHC) crane for a new Ulstein SX121 vessel ordered by Jan De Nul.

The vessel is under construction at China Merchants Heavy Industry (CMHI) in China.

The order forms part of a 1+1 vessel programme, with delivery of the crane scheduled for February 2028.

MacGregor booked the contract in its second-quarter 2026 order intake.

Jan De Nul selects proven AHC crane

Jan De Nul selected MacGregor’s 165-tonne crane based on the company’s track record in previous projects.

According to MacGregor, the lifting solution has already demonstrated its performance in service.

“This crane’s lightweight design gives higher lifting capacity without the added weight of a larger unit, and that translates into a real operational advantage over the vessel’s working life,” said Lucie Addicks, Executive Vice President, Offshore Solutions at MacGregor.

The AHC system is designed to compensate for vessel movement caused by waves. This supports more stable lifting operations in offshore environments.

MacGregor to support construction in China

MacGregor will also use its local presence and production capabilities in China to support the CMHI shipyard.

The company will provide assistance across the design, installation and commissioning stages of the project.

This local support is intended to help the shipyard maintain the construction schedule through to the planned delivery.

MacGregor said the latest contract strengthens its position as a long-term equipment partner for shipowners and shipyards operating in the offshore construction sector.
