Korea Marine Transport Co. (KMTC) has announced a temporary suspension of selected special cargo shipments to Japan during the country’s Silver Week holiday period.
The restrictions will apply from 18 to 25 September 2026.
DG, OOG and reefer cargo affected
The temporary restrictions cover three categories of special cargo:
- Dangerous goods (DG)
- Out-of-gauge cargo (OOG)
- Reefer cargo (RF)
KMTC said restrictions may vary depending on the Japanese port involved.
Even at ports where DG, OOG or reefer cargo can normally be handled, shipments may still face restrictions due to factors such as terminal gate closing schedules during the holiday period.
Direct delivery required for some cargo
KMTC also noted that most DG and OOG cargo must be collected directly by the consignee after discharge.
Customers are therefore advised to check the specific restrictions applying at their destination port before arranging shipments.
The carrier said the temporary measures are linked to reduced operations at Japanese ports during the 2026 Silver Week holiday period.
