JAXPORT reaches halfway point on new vehicle berth construction

Jacksonville Port Authority has reached the halfway mark in constructing a new vehicle berth at Blount Island Marine Terminal as part of efforts to expand automotive handling capacity.

The new Berth 21 is scheduled for completion in early 2027 and will become Blount Island’s third dedicated vehicle berth.

The project forms part of a US$60 million infrastructure investment designed to increase operational flexibility and improve efficiency for vehicle vessel calls.

Berth 21 is being built next to existing Berth 20 and will share access infrastructure connecting vessels to vehicle storage areas on the terminal.

The development follows the recent expansion of Berth 22, which can now accommodate vehicle vessels up to approximately 750 feet in length.

JAXPORT said both projects will strengthen vessel handling capabilities while supporting growing automotive cargo demand.

The Florida Department of Transportation is funding 75% of project costs, while JAXPORT is contributing the remaining 25%.

Jacksonville remains one of the largest vehicle handling gateways in the United States.

In 2025, JAXPORT processed more than 506,000 vehicles through its automotive facilities.

The port currently hosts three automotive processors operating across Blount Island and Talleyrand terminals.
